IEEE $1 Million Challenge

Ideas are bigger today—and they should be. Technology is progressing faster than ever before. IEEE members have always created advancements that allow us to keep up with the changing world. The IEEE New Initiatives Committee (NIC) is looking for your help with the next big idea.

IEEE-USA's May Free Audio Book for Members Offers Tips for Rewarding Star Employees--on a Budget

What will you do to help important people in your company stay the course?

In the business world, it is not always possible to reward your key and special employees with raises or monetary gains in the conventional sense. However, it is possible to reward them in other ways that will keep them motivated and on-point--all of which keeps those valuable employees in your company--and/or your department.

Nominations are due 15 January annually for the IEEE Technical Field Awards (TFA) and the IEEE Eric Herz Outstanding Staff Member Award and 15 June annually for IEEE Medals and Recognitions. IEEE TFAs are awarded for contributions to or leadership in a specific field of interest of the IEEE. IEEE Medals and Recognitions are the highest awards that the IEEE presents on behalf of the IEEE Board of Directors. IEEE Medals embrace significant and broad IEEE interests and purposes.

The IEEE Vision, Innovation, and Challenges (VIC) Summit & Honors Ceremony presents a unique opportunity to connect with and learn from some of the technology “Giants” in the world. These world-class presenters will deep-dive into the most crucial areas of technology today, the impact on the future of industries, and the role that engineers will have serving the global community. It will culminate with the evening’s IEEE Honors Ceremony Gala where we will celebrate the pinnacle achievements of this year’s recipients whose accomplishments have led to the breakthroughs of today.

Each year, the MGA Outstanding Section Awards are presented to one large, one medium, and one small Section (across all Regions), to recognize their excellent work and successful efforts in fulfilling the educational and scientific goals of IEEE for the benefit of the public.  The recipient Sections are acknowledged for maintaining, enhancing, and supporting the Student Branches, Technical Chapters, and Affinity Groups within their geographic boundaries.

Three awards are presented, as follows:

  • Large Section = 1,501 or more members (including Students) as of 31 December of the prior year;
  • Medium Section = 501-1,500 members (including Students) as of 31 December of the prior year;
  • Small Section = 500 or fewer members (including Students) as of 31 December of the prior year

IEEE requires all authors or their employers, who intend on publishing in the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library, to provide a transfer of copyright prior to publication by the IEEE.

The IEEE Electronic Copyright Form (eCF) registration process was streamlined for conference organizers in 2018. In 2019, further updates to the eCF process were made, in addition to a new version of the packing list (1.7).

eCF Updates

A new IEEE Electronic Copyright Transfer Report:

·        Sent to the conference organizers 90/60/30 days before conference start date

·        Allows management and tracking of IEEE copyright form collection

·        Provides important information about copyright transfer for each paper, such as eCF Paper IDs and status of each transfer

Ethically Aligned Design, First Edition: A Vision for Prioritizing Human Well-being with Autonomous and Intelligent Systems (EAD1e), will be launched and publicly available on 25 March 2019. In recognition of this milestone, IEEE will host a global webinar to announce the availability of this seminal publication and to provide brief perspectives on the work and its use. The webinar takes place March 25, 9:00am eastern and registration is available via http://bit.ly/2O0v29y

The IEEE Vision, Innovation, and Challenges Summit ("IEEE VIC Summit") will be held on 17 May 2019 at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, San Diego, California, USA. The event will begin at 9:00 am PST.

The IEEE VIC Summit brings together leading innovators, visionaries, and disruptors in technology to discuss, explore, and uncover what is imminent, what is possible – and what these emerging technologies mean for our future. This is a unique opportunity to connect with, learn from, and build partnerships with some of the technology “Giants” of the world.

OBIEE for Conferences Retiring

Late last year, IEEE launched IEEE Conference Analytics, a business intelligence tool delivered via the Tableau online platform to provide reports and visualizations of key operational information. As a part of the transition to this new tool, IEEE will be retiring it's predecessor, OBIEE for Conferences.
