  • CREATING RENDERMAN®: PIXAR'S IMPACT ON COMPUTER GRAPHICS IS RECOGNIZED WITH AN IEEE MILESTONE

    Friday, 8 December | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, PST

This event will tell the origin story behind RenderMan®, the software that has revolutionized computer graphics since the mid-1980s.

Some of the presenters have personally received Oscar’s® for their work - including the first one given for software.

It will include the unveiling of an IEEE Milestone bronze plaque that recognizes the huge impact of RenderMan® on the world of special effects, and whose impact is now seen worldwide on a daily basis.

The Milestone bronze plaque will be presented to Pixar by IEEE President-Elect Tom Coughlin and IEEE History Committee member Brian Berg.

This event will be broadcast live from the Steve Jobs Theater at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, California.

IEEE Shares Insights on Sustainability at UN COP28 Conference

Globe Image of COP28 UAE

2023 IEEE President Saifur Rahman attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP28 alongside other climate leaders to discuss the energy transition and share insights on how we can build an equitable, sustainable and climate-resilient future. The COP28 conference was held in Dubai, UAE, from 30 Nov-12 December. This year the event focused on how to bring the world together at a critical moment for global transformative climate change.

IEEE’s presence at COP28 focused on:

  • Promoting CleanTech Solutions for Climate Solutions
  • How technology and engineering play a key role in helping shape the global energy landscape and in tackling climate change challenges
  • The need for education programs and skills. (Achieving a net-zero carbon future requires not only the development and deployment of innovative technologies but also the cultivation of the skills and capabilities necessary to implement and progress these solutions effectively)

IEEE has both the opportunity and responsibility to assist in organizing the response of engineers, scientists, and technical professionals from around the world. The current Climate Change Website. has been enhanced with various features throughout the year along with an abundance of articles, event calendar, and more.

Call for 2024 Conference Applications for Geo Unit Conferences

For IEEE Geo Unit Conference Organizers, partnering with IEEE sponsors and submitting your IEEE Conference Application are essential first steps on your conference journey.

As a reminder of IEEE Policy 10.1.4 General Approvals, Endorsements, & Notification, three types of conference actions must be sought:

  • Organizational unit approvals from all sponsoring IEEE organizational units.
  • IEEE Meetings, Conferences & Events (MCE) review and approvals.
  • IEEE Organizational unit cross-endorsement.

All approvals and endorsements should be obtained at least a year before the proposed conference.

If applications are submitted less than 12 months before the conference start date, IEEE cannot guarantee that all reviews/approvals will be received before the event.

If you need assistance with your IEEE Conference Application for your Geo Unit event, the MCE team is ready to support you.
