Announcing the Winners of the 2023 Climate Change Dataset Upload Contest
In 2023, IEEE DataPort hosted a dataset upload contest dedicated to research focused on evaluating the impact of and finding solutions for climate change. The contest had a first place prize of US $10,000. The two runners-up received US $5,000 each.
Here's a look at the winning datasets:
The first place dataset is titled "Large-Scale Dust Storm Database Based on Satellite Images and Meteorological Reanalysis Data." The dataset features multi-channel data from the Fengyun-4A satellite and meteorological reanalysis data from March to May of 2020, 2021, and 2022.
The first runner up is the dataset titled "Social Media Big Dataset for Research, Analytics, Predication, and Understanding the Global Climate Change Trends." This dataset compiled social media data on climate change-related topics from Reddit communities. The dataset provides insights into public awareness and sentiment of climate change.
The second runner up is the dataset titled "Real-Time Landslide Dataset of Mawiongrim, Meghalaya, India" uses data from an active landslide zone to predict future landslides. The proposed model used temporal patterns from a dataset composed of various landslide-related characteristics.
