IEEE DataPort Wants Your Climate Change Research Data: Enter to Win $10,000

Climate change is one of the most significant threats to humanity and a major research priority for the IEEE community around the world. That’s why IEEE DataPort is hosting a dataset upload contest specifically for research focused on evaluating the impact of and finding solutions for climate change.
Anyone who uploads a qualifying dataset to IEEE DataPort in August, September, or October 2023 can enter to win up to $10,000. Two runners up will also win $5,000 each.
Winners will be selected based on the value and impact of research data in supporting global solutions to climate change, as determined by a panel of IEEE volunteers. Topics of the submitted research datasets may include, but are not limited to, greenhouse gas emissions, changing weather patterns, ocean health, sea levels, water scarcity, flooding, saltwater intrusion, wildfires, polar ice measurements, and impact on specific populations. Data may be focused on understanding the science of climate change or developing solutions for climate change.
We encourage everyone to upload their climate change-related research during this contest to get one step closer to creating solutions that can address the climate change crisis.
Share About Your Humanitarian Technology Programs & Activities
The IEEE Humanitarian Technologies Board (HTB), is creating an inventory of humanitarian technology activities across IEEE. If your organizational unit has a humanitarian technology program or activity, please complete the Humanitarian Technology Activities at IEEE form, to share some information about your work. Providing this information will allow HTB to collect and share meaningful insight into effective humanitarian technology practices and IEEE as a whole to better understand and support those who are doing this type of work.
Activities that are primarily focused on addressing climate change should be reported using this form instead.

Produced in part with the generous support of the IEEE Information Theory Society and Ray & Carmen Vargas, the new Information Theory unit covers the story of information from the earliest writing systems, through early computation devices such as the Antikythera Mechanism, up to modern techniques such as error-correcting codes, with an emphasis on the transformational nature of the introduction of modern Information Theory by Claude Shannon in the mid-20th century.
Corporations or others you work with who might be interested in sponsoring a unit should email the REACH Senior Program manager, Kelly McKenna, at: k.mckenna@ieee.org
