Ethernet is the ubiquitous wired networking standard used to support networks everywhere. Bandwidth demands throughout today’s networks are forecasted to grow anywhere from 2.3 to 55.3 times the levels of 2017. In this IEEE Tech Talk, our speakers will explore how the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group will work to develop higher speed solutions for 800 GbE and 1.6 TbE, while creating higher density, lower power solutions for 200 GbE and 400 GbE.

Sebastian Echeverria a Senior Engineer at the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University will share about his experience working as a software engineer. The resources shared in the webinar and in the TryEngineering Tuesday student resource can be used to help students explore, engage, and get inspired by coding.

The IEEE Awards Board seeks new volunteers to serve on its award selection committees and Awards Board standing committees to assist with managing the recipient nomination and selection process for IEEE Medals, Technical Field Awards, and Recognitions—the highest awards IEEE presents on behalf of the IEEE Board of Directors.

Announcing Archival Workspaces for Records Retention on IEEE Collabratec
Archival Workspaces are a new type of workspace on Collabratec, providing a secure location to store files. They are designed to assist volunteers, IEEE Organizational Units (sections, chapters, etc) and staff with IEEE’s Record Retention policy. Volunteers can create or join archival workspaces for their organizational units. Only one Archival Workspace can be created per organizational unit and access for volunteers in that OU is granted and removed automatically based on officer reporting. Each Archival Workspace has an additional special restricted access folder only accessible by OU’s Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Once you set up an archival workspace it is a simple process to:
- Upload files to the workspace
- Select a time period for the document to be stored
- Invite others in your OU, Society or Section to view the files
- Please note: Once you upload a file – you cannot delete it, files will be automatically deleted at the end of the retention period you select
- Archival workspaces provide an audit trail and assists in knowledge transfer when individuals change roles

EPICS in IEEE Environmental Competition Deadline Extended to 20 February
The EPICS in IEEE Environmental Competition, in partnership with the United Engineering Foundation (UEF), focuses on environmentally focused projects. This competition is meant to harness the power and potential of university students to mitigate and address the impact of climate change. Students in the United States will have the opportunity to address the technological needs of communities. Selected projects can receive up to $10,000 USD.
IEEE TryEngineering Summer Institute
During the two-week IEEE TryEngineering Summer Institute, students ages 13-17 participate in hands-on engineering design challenges, get behind-the-scenes tours during exciting field trips, and experience life on a college campus.
As an IEEE member, your friends and family can save US$100 on the TryEngineering Summer Institute by providing your member number during registration.

Gain Citations using IEEE DataPort
Research data sharing is critical to scientific innovation, research acceleration, and reproducibility. Datasets, like manuscripts, are citable assets and IEEE DataPort can help researchers give and receive proper dataset citations.
IEEE encourages the global technical community to use the datasets on IEEE DataPort and has implemented a citation function on IEEE DataPort to ensure proper citations are made. The “cite” button on each dataset page provides citations in several formats to make it easy for any user to properly cite the dataset, according to IEEE citation guidelines, in a manuscript or research paper. In addition, each dataset page on IEEE DataPort display all citations for that dataset, giving more visibility to the use of your valuable research data.
