IEEEXtreme is a global virtual challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members – advised and proctored by an IEEE member, and often supported by an IEEE Student Branch – compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems.

This year’s competition will be held on 19 October 00:00:00 UTC.

The Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT) Steering Committee is currently inviting proposals for sustainable development and humanitarian activities related projects. The committee will review submissions with budgets between $1,000 and US$19,999. Proposals should take a holistic, community-based approach taking account of relevant environmental, cultural, socio-economic & infrastructural issues and policy priorities. Project teams must demonstrate consultation with and a clear understanding of the needs of target communities, and demonstrate a needs-driven approach to strengthening local capacity through technology deployment. Please note that applications should be submitted by an existing SIGHT group; visit the HAC & SIGHT websites for more information and to review the Call for Proposals.

Presentation videos from the 3rd annual IEEE Vision, Innovation, and Challenges (VIC) Summit & Honors Ceremony are available to watch now on the Awards Ceremony Showcase page of IEEE.tv. IEEE-USA's August Free E-Book: Thomas Edison--Man of the Millennium--Vol. 1: The Legacy

IEEE-USA's August Free E-Book Looks at the Legacy of Thomas Edison--The World's Greatest Inventor

Thomas Edison provided us with a lifetime legacy of highly creative invention.  He and his staff kept project details in the 4,000 lab notebooks they left behind. Edison may have spent a great deal of time in his labs, but he did not create all his prototypes himself. He personally handpicked his very capable staff, and worked with them to transform his ideas into three-dimensional models for testing. Hiring the right people was a hallmark of his most inventive mind.

New Features Added to IEEE Payment Manager

This summer, MCE will roll out the next phase of IEEE Payment Manager, which will expand the services and benefits offered to conference organizers, including options to send international wire transfers in USD, CAD, or Euro through the online portal.

Other notable enhancements include:

- Display of account balances to verify sufficient funds
