TCS Fees

In 2015, the IEEE Board of Directors adopted a motion to recover some of the costs incurred in supporting technically co-sponsored conferences and the publication of their papers in Xplore. The IEEE Meetings, Conferences and Events (MCE) team developed and deployed procedures to collect these expenses as part of the conference application process. Recovery of these costs began in January 2016 for all society technically co-sponsored conferences. Until recently, IEEE Member and Geographic Activities had been absorbing the TCS expenses for its geographic units. The MGA Board has now approved a final policy for handling fees for all conferences technically co-sponsored by an MGA Geographic Unit.

For any technically co-sponsored conference in which there is no (0%) IEEE financial interest the MGA co-sponsor shall arrange (via an approved MoU) for recovery of IEEE operation costs in the form of TCS fees.

Effective for conferences for which the creation of the MoU starts after 1 January 2018 and before 31 December 2022, the fees are $1000 per event plus $15 for each paper that is optionally published in Xplore.

For conferences for which the creation of the MoU starts after 1 January 2023, the fees are $1450 per event plus $22 for each paper that is optionally published in Xplore.

As an exception to this general policy, MGA will continue to pay those fees if the external (nonIEEE) financial sponsor has a National Society Agreement with IEEE or has a Sister Society Agreement with one or more of the IEEE Societies.

  • If multiple IEEE Organizational Units (OUs) technically co-sponsor the same conference, the fee will be divided equally between all IEEE sponsors (ie: Society, Council, MGA Geographic Units).
  • MGA Geographic Units will have the option to bill the TCS fees to the Conference directly.

If you would like more information on this new allocation process or have any questions, please contact us at mgatcs@ieee.org.

IEEE DataPort Announces Winners of Fall 2022 Dataset Upload Contest

IEEE DataPort Fall 2022 Dataset Upload Contest Winners

The 2022 Dataset Upload contest was designed to encourage authors and researchers to share their research in categories important to the research data community, including environmental/climate change, AI/machine learning, and biomedical/health sciences. A panel of IEEE volunteers selected the top datasets in each of the four contest categories based on the number of unique visitors each dataset received by the end of the contest period, the quality of the metadata, and the value to the technical community.

And the winners are…

AI/Machine Learning: Francesca Meneghello with the dataset “CSI Dataset for Wireless Human Sensing on 80 MHZ Wi-Fi Channels.” The dataset provided data to develop wireless sensing applications for activity recognition, people identification, and people counting.

Environmental/Climate Change: Pandarasamy Arjunan with the dataset “Paddy Doctor: A Visual Image Dataset for Automated Paddy Disease Classification and Benchmarking.” The dataset contains more than 16,000 paddy leaf images and is used for benchmarking computer vision algorithms to automate the early and accurate disease identification.

Biomedical/Health Sciences: Julio Valdez with the dataset “Cardiopulmonary Sounds Database,” which contains information on cardiopulmonary signals recorded simultaneously. The signals were separated by heart sounds and lung sounds.

General/Other Category: Solomiia Fedushko with the dataset “Propaganda and Fake News on the War in Ukraine,” which collected posts from social media networks popular among Russian-speaking people and detected false news and propaganda through thorough analysis.
