New IEEE Public Safety Technology Initiative

IEEE Public Safety Technology

The new IEEE Public Safety Technology (PST) Initiative is a global center for public safety stakeholders to exchange ideas on how emerging technologies can help public safety personnel be more effective and support their health and wellness.

PST was preceded by the IEEE Public Safety Technologies Task Force, which published the white paper Public Safety Technology Gaps and Opportunities. The publication addresses several use cases with highly significant and timely public safety applications and identifies ‘opportunity technologies’ that may be used to improve operations.

Many IEEE Societies and programs include technologies essential for public safety applications. PST seeks to bring those efforts together in a single initiative. PST is partnering with the IEEE MOVE Program to strengthen IEEE’s efforts towards public safety. The MOVE program is committed to assisting victims of and responders to natural disasters with short-term communications, computer, and power solutions.

PST is proud to have the participation of these Societies: IEEE Broadcast Technology; IEEE Consumer Technology; IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing; IEEE Industry Applications; IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology; IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology; and IEEE Vehicular Technology.

Volunteers are welcome. Sign up to join a committee today.

Use Hybrid Meetings to combine in-person and virtual meeting participation

As you are planning meetings for your organizational units, please consider the benefits of holding hybrid meetings that combine in-person and virtual meeting participation.

Hybrid meetings:

  1. Engage members and nonmembers who can only attend remotely, increasing overall attendance.
  2. Expand participation to a broader and potentially international audience.
  3. Enable speakers to present when your organizational unit may not be able to afford or arrange travel.
  4. Can be recorded and posted to IEEE.tv and YouTube adding value to all of IEEE.
  5. Allow posted recordings to be viewed at any time.

IEEE MGA IT Coordination and Oversight Committee has determined several resources to assist with hybrid meetings including a web page with guidelines and matrix of hybrid meeting levels and a Collabratec workspace for discussions.

We encourage the people who are skilled at running hybrid meetings and have their favorite combinations of hardware and software to share their knowledge and experiences on the Hybrid Meeting Organizers Collabratec Workspace. It is also a great place to ask questions and receive expert advice.
