IEEE Member Group Insurance Program: Engineered for Members

5 Key Advantages of the Member-only Insurance Program:

IEEE ADVOCACY

What sets this program apart is the role IEEE plays as an advocate for its participating members. You can be confident the insurance plans you’re offered are IEEE-reviewed and IEEE-approved member benefits.

EXCLUSIVE GROUP RATES

As an individual, you benefit from IEEE’s membership size and clout. IEEE’s negotiating power translates to competitive group rates, as well as specific group safeguards you won’t find in the individual insurance marketplace.

EXPANSIVE TRUSTED PORTFOLIO

Thousands of technology professionals have used the IEEE Member Group Insurance Program as a convenient, cost-effective addition to their family’s evolving financial plan for the past 60 years.

PORTABLE COVERAGE & CONVENIENCE

Over the trajectory of your career, you’re likely to have a variety of employers or even become your own boss. That makes it imperative to have insurance that is “portable” – meaning it is tied to you, and not to your job or employer.

EXPERIENCE & PERSPECTIVE

This insurance program is helmed by well-respected, time-honored experts. Insurance within the IEEE Member Group Insurance Program is available to you from top-rated insurance carriers and managed by Mercer Consumer.

Reminder: IEEE Sections, Raise Your Flags in time for IEEE Day!

IEEE Section Flags

To further support Sections in maintaining a presence for local members, new identifiers have been created to represent Sections on their websites, print materials, and presentations. You can raise your Section flag and help members and potential members better recognize their local IEEE Section! You can also customize the identifier to best represent your Section.

In addition, there are several tools and resources also available that can be used along with the identifiers to help with events, meetings, reports, and more.

With IEEE Day coming up on 5 October 2021, you can join IEEE Sections across the globe and raise your flag to celebrate!

TryEngineering Together - Recruiting Young Professional Members in Regions 1-6

TryEngineering Together

IEEE Educational Activities is currently offering a unique volunteer opportunity for IEEE YP Members in Regions 1-6 to help make a difference in a child's STEM education.

In today's virtual learning environment, teachers are looking for creative ways to engage their students. Now, more than ever, the TryEngineering Together eMentoring Program is key in meeting the challenges that teachers face.

TryEngineering Together is an innovative, literacy-based eMentoring program that connects caring adult volunteers (eMentors) with 3rd to 5th grade students in under-served classrooms. Via online letters, volunteers and their student pen-pals discuss important STEM topics covered in the articles you read together. All communications are delivered digitally through the safe, online platform. In just a few hours a month, you can directly impact children as they gain confidence in their STEM skills.

The volunteer opportunity begins with a 1-hour training webinar in October. Communication with your student begins in late October and concludes in June. There are a limited number of spaces available. If you are interested in volunteering, please register no later than 10 September.

Meet Funding Agency Requirements with IEEE DataPort

IEEE DataPort

Research funding agencies have specific requirements for research data you must comply with to be eligible for funding. IEEE DataPort can help you meet these requirements. Here’s how:

Data Accessibility: IEEE DataPort gives you the option to publish your data as Open Access, allowing your dataset to be accessed by anyone who is a registered user (logged in user) of IEEE DataPort, no subscription required.

Data Management: IEEE DataPort offers individuals the opportunity to upload 2TB per dataset and users that are part of an institutional subscription to upload 10TB per dataset. Each dataset will receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) so it will always be referenceable, and users can edit their datasets (with version control), add supplementary materials to their dataset entry (scripts, visualizations, etc.), and more.

Reproducibility and Validation: IEEE DataPort allows users to upload various artifacts, such as the data itself, data visualizations, related scripts, instructional documentation, and research methodology. By accessing datasets on IEEE DataPort, other researchers will have the opportunity to validate your findings, or perhaps leverage and cite the dataset to support their own research.

Learn more about IEEE DataPort and upload your research data today.

Single Sign On is Now Available in the IEEE App

Single Sign On Available in the IEEE App

The IEEE App continues to grow and expand its features for its users. With single sign-on (SSO), the latest enhancement, members can now easily visit IEEE websites such as IEEE Collabratec®, IEEE Spectrum, or IEEE.org, without having to sign in again.

Members can enable the new feature the first time they click on a link designated for SSO. Once the feature is enabled, preferences will be stored in the app profile and when members visit other IEEE websites, they will automatically be signed in.

The IEEE App allows users to:

  • Create a personalized experience
  • Search and find IEEE conferences
  • Manage or join meetups virtually
  • Read and download their IEEE magazines

Let's continue to grow the IEEE community and help our volunteers and members engage, connect, and network globally.

Unfolding the Educational Digital Divide

As computers are becoming the basis for many educational practices, it unfolds itself as a possible educational problem, as students without access to hardware and an internet connection, or the skills to use them, and teachers trained on their effective use may be hindered.

See why it is vital to understand and discuss this new form of inequality to address its effects in this Teaching Excellence Hub article.
